King Street in Ludlow to reopen on Friday

King Street in Ludlow is set to reopen to traffic this Friday (1 April 2011) following the completion of repairs to two buildings in the street.

Contractors Cornbrook Construction have announced that structural repairs to the Tara premises have now been completed and the scaffolding is due to be removed on Friday.

Whilst the road has been closed, decorative repairs and the replacement of guttering and downpipes have also been carried out at the adjacent Costa Coffee building.

The removal of the scaffolding will allow ongoing repairs to be undertaken to the interiors of these premises but this will not require further road closure.

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“I’m delighted that King Street is to reopen this week following the completion of these repairs.  This is great news for people living in and visiting Ludlow, and especially for all the traders in King Street.  I would like to express my appreciation to all the contractors who have been involved in repairing these and other premises in King Street, often working late into the night to maintain the precious fabric of Ludlow.”

Councillor Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for planning and housing, said:

“This was a real team effort with the contractors working closely with officers of the council to ensure that there were no hold ups and that King Street could be reopened as quickly as possible.”
