Shropshire Council’s Cabinet will consider a new document which will make it easier for local people to get involved in the planning process next week
(Tuesday 15 February 2011).

This document, called the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI), has been shaped by local people following a consultation late last year, as well as the emerging localism agenda which aims to give the council and people more power to make decisions in their area.

The SCI sets out how the council will involve local people and businesses in all aspects of the planning process, from plan-making through to decisions on individual development proposals.

Councillor Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for planning and housing, said:

“Planning plays an important role in shaping places where people live and work. Therefore, it’s important that people are actively involved in the planning process. Making our planning processes clearer and more accessible is key to achieving this.”

If approved by Cabinet, the draft SCI will be considered by Council on 24 February 2011 before it is adopted.
