Blog: Dry January – Emma Peace
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be issuing people’s experiences about their Dry January Challenge. Today Emma Peace, Help2Change Project Manager tells her experience.
The first challenge for me was actually deciding to sign up to Dry January, this being mine and several others birthday month and all! I have previously done ‘Sober for October’ (I don’t smoke and wanted to do something similar). Every now and again I like to set myself these challenging yet not totally unachievable targets related to being a bit healthier e.g. Race for Life and the like. After some ‘coercion’ from colleagues, I signed up.
Two weeks in and it’s not been too difficult. The first hurdle was what to do with the alcohol in the fridge/cupboard left over from the festive period. I had used the remainder of a bottle of red in our lasagne on New Year’s Eve but I still had half a bottle of white in the fridge on NY’s day. Going against my principles of not wasting things, I threw it away (not the bottle my sister bought me, it’s still unopened at the back of the pantry).
I don’t generally drink in the week, however I do partake in a couple on a Friday after work, but have managed to avoid this and do feel better for it.
Well done everyone, we can do it!!
