Burnell and Severn Valley LJC on 5 March

Last Monday (5 March 2012) the Burnell and Severn Valley Local Joint Committee (LJC) was hosted at Cound Guildhall.

This historically important building has been in the care of Trustees since 2004, since which time they have carried out a great deal of work to make it the hospitable and welcoming venue it is today.  There are still some parts of the project that need to be completed to finish off the full restoration, but members of the committee and the public enjoyed relaxing in the warm and friendly environment.

We listened to an interesting presentation from Jon Hayes, the head of Shropshire Council’s transport policy team, who, together with Gordon Frost from Arriva buses, dealt with a number of issues and concerns raised by the audience.

The committee unanimously agreed at the meeting to fund all the applications.  The first application was for the next stage of the Cound Guildhall restoration project, then Cressage Parish Plan and Condover Parish Paths Partnership . The committee was pleased to be able support Atcham Flower Club’s new project “Fun with Flowers”.  There will be two workshops held at Atcham Malthouse in the spring, with the aim of encouraging new members (old and young) to participate in flower arranging.

Shropshire Councillor Claire Wild commented:-

“Everytime I see Cound Guildhall it has developed and improved.  The LJC meeting was thoroughly enjoyable.  It is great to have an opportunity for the public to come out and raise their concerns.  I will look forward to the next meeting on Monday 25 June 2012.”
