Volunteers collected 14 bags of rubbish and 880kg of dirt and leaves during a community litter pick in Broseley last month (Wednesday 22 February 2012).

The litter pick was organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, and was carried out in addition to their routine streetcleaning schedule.

The litter pick focused on Church Street, Avenue Road, Bridgnorth Road, Wilkinson Avenue, Foundry Lane, Dark Lane, High Street, Barber Street, Duke Street, King Street, Edinburgh Road, Elizabeth Crescent, Windsor Crescent and the footpath from Dark Lane to Church Street.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to thank the volunteers who gave their time to help keep their village clean and tidy.”

Jean Jones, Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:

“This is a really worthwhile activity, helping to keep the local environment clean and tidy, and encouraging people to take a pride in their community; thank you to all who participated.”
