Volunteers needed to breathe life into Donington Pool
Shropshire Council’s outdoor recreation service and Donington and Albrighton Local Nature Reserve Management Committee need your help.
They have recently been awarded a £50,000 Community Spaces grant to transform the surroundings of Donington Pool in Albrighton. Work will include construction of new fishing pegs and an access platform to allow visitors, including people with disabilities, to get closer to the water’s edge.
To allow local people to get involved with the project, volunteer days are being held at the nature reserve. The first of these will be on Thursday 15 December 2011 at 10am-3pm. Tasks will include cutting down non-native vegetation such as rhododendron and snow berry. Wildflower bulbs will then be planted to improve the wildlife value of the banks.
The second volunteer day will be held on Thursday 19 January 2012 at 10am-3pm. This day will involve the construction of a bird feeding station and planting native shrubs and trees.
Why not come along? Meet some new people, learn some new skills and make a difference to your local nature reserve. All tools and training are provided. Just bring old clothes and a packed lunch. Feel free to stay as long as you can.
Meet on the banks of Donington Pool, Rectory Road, Albrighton, WV7 3EP.
