Have your say on the future of transport in Shropshire
Shropshire Council is asking the county’s residents, businesses and visitors to help shape the future of transport in Shropshire.
The council is carrying out a consultation on its new draft Local Transport Plan, which sets out the vision, objectives and priorities that will guide future transport policies, investment and decision-making between 2027 and 2037.
The consultation runs from noon on 5 October to 16 November [2026]. People can take park by completing an online questionnaire or by attending one of seven in-person events or online webinars being held over the next six weeks (see details below).
Hard copies of the questionnaire or information in an accessible format can also be requested by emailing ShropshireLTP@shropshire.gov.uk.
The Local Transport Plan provides a clear vision on how to make it easier for people and goods to move around the county. It covers all forms of transport, including cars, buses, coaches, trains, HGVs, cycling, wheeling and walking, as well as non-transport solutions such as improving digital access to reduce the need to travel.

Rob Wilson, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and regeneration, said:
“Transport plays a vital role in all our lives. Whether travelling to work, attending school or college, accessing healthcare, visiting family and friends, receiving deliveries or enjoying leisure activities, transport plays a part in almost everything we do each day.
Safe, reliable and affordable ways to get around are essential to the success and wellbeing of Shropshire’s communities. Our LTP seeks to connect people and goods to where they need to go, and to ensure that there are high-quality places for people to live, work and visit.
“The plan includes both a long-term strategy and an action plan for Shropshire’s highway and transport network, as well as land use planning, digital connectivity and the movement of people and goods.
“We need a transport system that connects people to opportunities, supports economic growth, improves health and wellbeing, reduces carbon emissions and helps protect the environment that makes Shropshire such a special place to live, work and visit.
“The draft plan sets out the vision, objectives and priorities that will guide future transport policies, investment and decision-making between 2027 and 2037. It’s been informed by evidence gathering and ongoing engagement with businesses, local communities and stakeholders. However, it’s important that we continue to hear a wide range of views before the draft plan is finalised next year.”
After the consultation closes, the feedback will be carefully reviewed alongside other evidence to help shape the final Local Transport Plan, which is expected to be adopted in spring 2027.
As a Local Transport Authority (LTA), Shropshire Council is legally required to have a Local Transport Plan in place. The draft Shropshire Local Transport Plan has been prepared in line with the approach set out in the 2026 guidance from the Department for Transport on Local Transport Plans.
