Cosford footpath work to be completed this week

The final phase of work to construct a new footpath along the road from RAF Cosford to Cosford railway station is being carried out from today (Monday 28 September 2026) to Friday (2 October), from 8am to 5pm each day.

The path is much needed at a location where people are currently were having to walk along the road with no safe refuge. The work is being funded using £350,000 awarded to Shropshire Council from Active Travel England.

During this next phase of work Worcester Road West will be closed, with a signed diversion in place, and there will be traffic restrictions on Long Lane, Neachley.

Access through Long Lane will be restricted to HGVs/coaches travelling to the RAF Museum, except where direct access is required to properties/businesses.

Access through Worcester Road West will be restricted to pedestrians only. Access through Long Lane will be restricted to properties, businesses, HGVs and coaches. Access for emergency vehicles will be via Long Lane only.

The first phase of work was carried out in June/July 2026 and streetlighting has since been installed alongside the new path ahead of this final phase of work.

The scheme design was undertaken by WSP, and the work is being carried out by Kier Infrastructure on behalf of Shropshire Council

People are asked not to park on the road while the work is being carried out, to help avoid disruption and delays to the work.
