Six Shropshire leisure centres to offer free access on National Fitness Day
Six Shropshire leisure centres are encouraging local people to get active this National Fitness Day by offering free access on Wednesday 16 September 2026.
Visitors will be able to access a range of facilities and activities at Whitchurch Swimming & Fitness Centre, Market Drayton, Oswestry Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village, The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Centre and SpArC Bishop’s Castle.
Rhys Collins, Contract Manager for Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, which operates the centres in partnership with Serco Leisure, said:
“National Fitness Day is a fantastic opportunity to open the doors of our leisure centres and encourage more people to get moving.
We want to make physical activity accessible and enjoyable for everyone, giving people the chance to try something new, discover what’s available on their doorstep and take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle.
“Whether it’s a workout in the gym, a swim, a fitness class or an activity with family and friends, there are plenty of ways to get involved. We’re looking forward to welcoming people into our centres and helping them find activities they enjoy.”
Sarah Marston, Shropshire Council’s portfolio holder for communities and environment said:
“National Fitness Day is a great opportunity for people to get active, improve their wellbeing and see what’s on offer at their local leisure centre. I’m delighted that residents across Shropshire can enjoy free access to our facilities and activities, and I encourage anyone who can to come along and give it a try.”
National Fitness Day is an annual campaign led by ukactive that encourages people across the country to get active and highlights the physical, mental and social benefits of regular activity.
The free access offer is available on Wednesday 16 September only. For full details of available activities and how to take part, visit:
