A long-established manufacturer and a recent inward investor are sharing their experiences of doing business in Shropshire, highlighting why the county continues to attract manufacturing investment.

A new video – made possible through funding from the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) – features Bridgnorth Aluminium, which has been part of Shropshire’s manufacturing landscape for decades, alongside Börger UK Ltd, which recently relocated to the county.

While their journeys differ, both businesses point to many of the same reasons for choosing Shropshire: access to skilled people, strong supply chains, good connectivity, room for growth and an excellent quality of life.
The video highlights how these companies are benefitting from what Shropshire has to offer. It shows an established businesses continuing to invest in the county, alongside a newer company which has chosen Shropshire as a base for serving national and international markets.

“Bridgnorth Aluminium and Börger UK Ltd tell two different stories. One is a long-established manufacturer with deep roots in the county, while the other is an inward investor that identified Shropshire as the right place to establish itself and grow.
“Together, they demonstrate the strengths that continue to make Shropshire an attractive location for manufacturing and investment.”
Manufacturing remains one of Shropshire’s key economic strengths. The sector contributes £836 million to the local economy and supports businesses operating across engineering, automotive supply chains, advanced manufacturing, agri-tech and food production technologies.
Latest data (2024/5) shows that Shropshire is home to 790 manufacturing businesses, representing 5% of all enterprises in the county, including 40 businesses employing 50 or more people . The sector supports 11,500 jobs, accounting for 8.8% of all employment. These figures underline manufacturing’s importance as a source of skilled jobs, productivity and long-term economic value
