Morton Bridge near Knockin to close for maintenance work

Morton Bridge – which carries the B4396 over the River Morda – will be closed for maintenance work from 29 June to 10 July [2026].
The work will involve taking down and rebuilding the downstream parapet and general pointing works following an RTC last year.
Unfortunately, in order to carry out the work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic. The closure will be in force 24 hours a day.
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route. For more information, please visit https://one.network/?GB149375021
Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the work, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.
Inevitably there will be some disruption during this work and people are thanked in advance for their understanding.
The work will be carried out by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.
Advance notice signs will be erected at the bridge and an information letter delivered to local properties.
