Laundry Lane to Rea Brook bridge in Shrewsbury to be replaced

The bridge from Laundry Lane to Rea Book nature reserve in Shrewsbury will be closed for replacement from Monday 15 to Friday 19 December [2025].
The bridge’s timber structure is being replaced with a steel-framed structure. As a concrete abutment for the bridge to sit on needs to be made it will be necessary to close the route while work is being carried out.
James Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for housing and leisure, said:
“We have long been wanting to replace the bridge at Laundry Lane as it is on its last legs, and an opportunity has come up to do so next week. We will re-open the route as soon as can, and as soon as it’s safe, and I thank people for their understanding while this important work is carried out. The result will be a much better, wider and long-lasting structure on this vital footpath.”
Rosemary Dartnall, Shropshire Councillor for Column and Sutton, said:
“Residents will be delighted that this work will be carried out quickly, with minimal disruption. Of course there will be some inconvenience as the footbridge is used daily by a large number of residents. I’m pleased Shropshire Council has taken the opportunity that has arisen to get this work done now.”
