Can you offer a lifelong and loving home?

Shropshire residents interested in providing a loving home for children awaiting adoption are being invited to find out more as part of a national campaign.

Starting today (Monday 20 October 2025), National Adoption Week will highlight the benefits of adoption, dispel myths about who can adopt and encourage people to learn more about the difference that adopting can make.

Adopters provide the lifelong, loving and stable family that local children need and deserve. However, sadly, locally and nationally, there are more children requiring adoption than adopters coming forward.

Research shows that many people believe they must wait to be in a ‘perfect situation’ to adopt, but adoption isn’t about perfection, it is about being there, learning along the way, and ultimately giving a child, or children a place to call home.

Councillor Ruth Houghton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for social care, said:

“Here in Shropshire, we believe that every child should experience their childhood in a positive, safe and loving home. For some children that means an adoptive family is needed and we are committed to finding the right homes for each and every child that needs one.

“We know that there are many people who would make fantastic adopters, but may feel unsure about coming forward. We would encourage anyone considering adoption to speak to our friendly, supportive team to find out more.”

Shropshire is part of regional adoption agency Together4Children, who provide people interested in adoption with the information, support and training from the very first step and throughout their journey. A free online information event on Tuesday 4 November from 6pm to 7pm will give people the chance to find out more.

Together4Children is a partnership between Shropshire Council, Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Telford and Wrekin Council. Bookings for the online information event can be made on the Together4Children website. The team can also be contacted by phone on 0300 111 8044.
