Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Leader has today (7 March 2025) written to the Minister for the Future of Roads, Lilian Greenwood MP, to ask the Government to reaffirm its support for the proposed Shrewsbury North West Relief Road (NWRR).

In her letter, she states that the NWRR is a shovel-ready project which offers significant benefits for economic growth and housing delivery, reductions in congestion and air pollution, improvements to public transport and the delivery of the council’s sustainable travel strategy. Offering the final completion of the missing northern section of Shrewsbury’s ring road, it has received support from many public organisations including the NHS, Shropshire Fire and Rescue and Arriva.

She also notes that other options have been considered and that the NWRR remains the best value, most effective way forward.
