Road closure in Highley for footbridge repair work

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

New England Road and Bynd Lane, Highley will be closed from Monday 2 to Monday 30 September [2024] while repairs to the Bind footbridge (Donkey Bridge) are carried out.

Work will take place between 8am and 5pm each day, and the road will be closed during these times.

The work will involve vegetation clearance, repointing to both masonry arches, reinstating sections of both parapets, installing new horse mounting blocks, installation of concrete grips to reduce scour, resurfacing of the footpath at both ends of the footbridge and installation of rock armour to downstream right and both left embankments.

During the closures a signed diversion will be place – and access/egress for properties and any businesses within the closure will be maintained when safe to do so. Depending on their vehicle type, road users may be able to choose an alternative diversion route.

Access for pedestrians will be unavailable over The Bind Footbridge (Donkey Bridge). Access to frontages will be maintained.
