Two new Stay and Play groups for families with children under five in Shrewsbury were  launched today (Wednesday 5 October 2011).

The special event at the Grange Primary School, Shrewsbury was organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services to mark the new Stay and Play sessions, which will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1pm-2.45pm starting on Tuesday 11 October 2011.

The new Stay and Play sessions are free of charge and offer a variety of fun activities for young children.  The sessions also offer an opportunity for parents to seek advice and information from children’s centre support workers, and what other support groups and courses are available in their local area.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“I am delighted that the new Stay and Play groups will give parents with young children a great opportunity to meet with other parents, socialise and to share experiences, as well as giving parents support, advice and information to support them and their child’s well-being.  I wish the scheme every success.”

Local Shropshire Councillor for Harlescott, Councillor Vernon Bushell, who attended the event today, said:

“This is a fantastic scheme which gives young families a great opportunity to get together. It’s absolutely wonderful, and I hope many families come along and join in these sessions and have lots of fun.”

Following this special launch event, Stay and Play sessions will take place on Tuesdays 1pm-2.45pm from Tuesday 11 October 2011 and Wednesdays 1pm-2.45pm from Wednesday 12 October 2011 each week.
