People living in Broseley are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in the village on Wednesday 14 September 2011.

The litter pick has been organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and it is being carried out in addition to their routine streetcleaning schedule.

The litter pick will be focusing on Church Street, Avenue Road, Bridgnorth Road, Wilkinson Avenue, Foundry Lane, Dark Lane, High Street, Barber Street, Duke Street, King Street, Edinburgh Road, Elizabeth Crescent, Windsor Crescent and the footpath from Dark Lane to Church Street.

Officers will be in the Bridgnorth Road Car Park at 9.30am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk.  Litter picking equipment will be provided.  The litter pick will finish at around noon.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to invite as many people as possible to come along on the day to lend a hand – or both hands! – in this joint effort between the community and the council to keep Broseley clean and tidy.”

Jean Jones, Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:

“The village already benefits from the fantastic work of the Broseley in Bloom volunteers. This is an opportunity for the community to come together and help keep our town a place to be proud of.”
