Chris Griffiths, senior fitness instructor at the Shropshire Council-owned Sports Village, said:-

“We want to help people who’ve signed up for the Race for Life be as prepared as possible for the challenge they’ll face on 19 June. This event is a 5km run, which is a short distance for some, but a long way to go for people who’ve only just taken up running.

“We’ll be offering two sessions: one for beginners, and one for people who already run a bit but are looking to improve on personal bests at the event. This programme is free for all people who’ve already signed up for Race for Life. Just bring proof of registration to the reception at the Sports Village, and we’ll sign you up for the 10 weeks.

“Anyone nervous about taking the plunge on a 5km run, I’d say doing something like Race for Life is a great introduction. The atmosphere is amazing, you’re supporting an important charity and you’ll feel great at the finish line!

“Both sessions take place on Wednesday evenings, with the beginner’s at 6.30pm-7pm and advanced at 7.15pm-7.45pm.”

Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events. It started in 1994 as a women-only ‘race’ but opened up to men in 2019, and since its inception has helped raise nearly £900 million.
