Morecambe and Wise homage brings sunshine to Shrewsbury
Theatregoers in Shropshire are in for a surprise when “The Play What I Wrote” opens at Theatre Severn next week.
Audiences will be kept guessing at each performance of the show, an homage to Morecambe and Wise, which promises a mystery guest star every time.
The production, which runs at the Shropshire Council-run theatre from Wednesday 26 January 2022 to Saturday 29 January inclusive, opened to five-star critical acclaim at Birmingham Rep, with Hollywood superstar Tom Hiddleston joining the company on opening night.
Previous mystery guest stars have included Ralph Fiennes, Ewan McGregor, Joanna Lumley, Daniel Radcliffe, Kylie Minogue, Nigel Havers, Denise Welch, Sir Ian McKellen, Dawn French and Sting.
The Play What I Wrote stars Dennis Herdman, Mitesh Soni and Thom Tuck, with direction by double Olivier Award winner Sean Foley.
Hamish has written a play, an epic set in the French Revolution called “A Tight Squeeze for the Scarlet Pimple”. Sean, on the other hand, wants to continue with their double act. He believes that if they perform a tribute to Morecambe and Wise, Hamish’s confidence will be restored, and the double act will go on. But first Sean needs to persuade a guest star to appear in the play what Hamish wrote.
Who will you see when “The Play What I Wrote” comes to Theatre Severn?
