Quarry paddling pool in Shrewsbury to reopen

The Quarry paddling pool in Shrewsbury will reopen this Sunday (14 August 2011) following essential repairs.

The pool opened for the busy summer season on 31 May 2011.  However, just one week after opening, the paint on the sides of the pool and on the steps started to splinter due to a chemical reaction between the paint, chemicals in the pool and the weather conditions.

Work to apply a fibre glass coating over the sides of the pool and the steps has now been completed and the council has started to refill it in time for its opening after the Flower Show.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“It’s fantastic to hear that the pool has now been successfully repaired.

“The paddling pool is a great, free facility in the beautiful surroundings of The Quarry park.  It’s just one of the many fun activities offered at the centre to keep children entertained throughout the summer season.”

Andrew Bannerman, Shropshire Councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, said:

“I’m very pleased the council has rectified the fault as quickly as possible and the pool should give a lot of enjoyment to children before the end of the school holidays.”

The pool is open on a weather-dependent basis each year.  This means that its opening times are never guaranteed and this is clearly identified on all signage.
