Flooding update Saturday 23 January 10pm
Bridgnorth
River levels recorded at 5.04m at 7pm and falling but they are expected to remain relatively high for the next few days. Residents are urged to continue to take care.
It is expected that water will have receded enough for our highways teams to begin a clean-up operation tomorrow morning.
A team from Shropshire Council and the Environment Agency will be on the ground tomorrow ready to support and assist residents and businesses.
The B4555 road from Bridgnorth to Highley is OPEN with traffic light management due to a small flow of water on the carriageway.
The following closures are still in place:
- Doctors Lane Bridgnorth
- Riverside, Bridgnorth
- Southwell Riverside, Bridgnorth
Due to the scale of local flooding and high water levels, smaller and minor routes may be affected – the advice being to proceed with care and caution.
Car Parking
Riverside Car Park is closed- resident permit holders may use their permits at Innage Lane or Severn Street Car Park whilst road closures are in place for flooding.
Additionally, on-street resident permit holders from Friar Street, Riverside and Southwell Riverside can use their permits at Innage Lane or Severn Street Car Park whilst road closures are in place for flooding.
Melverley and Pentre
River levels were recorded at 5.76 in Melverley at 9am today.
Large parts of the community remain cut off. Water levels are receding, and we are hopeful that access will be restored from Sunday.
Shrewsbury
The river level is currently 3.98m at Welsh Bridge gauge at 8pm and falling.
An extensive clean-up and repair operation has taken place where water levels have allowed. Roads in Coton Hill, Chester Street, Smithfield Road and Coleham have all reopened to traffic.
The Bus Station was closed today (Saturday 23 January) and temporary stops on the outskirts of the town centre were operating for key workers and essential journeys. Normal service is expected to resume from Monday.
