Food hygiene warning following prosecution
A chip shop owner from the Wrexham area has been sentenced to an eight month custodial sentence and banned from operating a food business, following a prosecution taken by Wrexham County Borough Council and supported by Shropshire Council’s environmental health team.
Ramazan Aslan, who was operating Llay Fish Bar, was sentenced on 4 February at Mold Crown Court having pleaded guilty to the following charges in January:
- Failure to safeguard cooked and ready to eat food against contamination with e.coli O157.
- Failure by the defendant to notify the Council that he was the Food Business Operator.
- Failure to put in place, implement and maintain a permanent procedure based on the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
- Failure to keep up to date the documents setting out his food management procedure.
- Inadequate procedures in place to control pests.
- Not receiving adequate training in the application of HACCP principles.
Officers from Shropshire Council formed part of the outbreak control team in this cross-border investigation.
Councillor Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for environmental health, said:
“This sentence shows a clear message to food traders of the implications of not practising good food hygiene.”
