Localism on the agenda at Snailbeach meeting

Residents of south west Shropshire are urged to come and voice their concerns at the next meeting of the Bishop’s Castle, Chirbury & Worthen and Clun Local Joint Committee (LJC) when it meets at Snailbeach on Thursday 16 June 2011. There will also be updates on primary schools, hospitals and ambulances, and the pylons.

Shropshire Council is exploring the future of the Local Joint Committees and want to see how they can help deliver localism in Shropshire, and involve local people more in the decision-making of the council. Councillor Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for community engagement, will be attending the meeting to talk about localism and answer questions raised.

The meeting will also be attended by Inspector James Dunn from West Mercia Police who will talk about the local policing priorities for the area. The LJC will also consider seven funding applications which have been received since their last meeting.

Councillor Peter Phillips, chairman of the LJC, said:-

“The meeting provides a chance for local people to give us their views on issues that are important to them. The parish councillors and Shropshire Councillors on the committee are keen that the local community helps them set priorities for the future, and this is something that will become increasingly important as the Localism Bill is developed in the county. Shropshire Council has questions to answer in terms of how it listens to local communities – come and ask them!”

The Bishop’s Castle, Chirbury & Worthen and Clun LJC takes place on Thursday 16 June 2011 at Snailbeach Village Hall, starting at 7pm.  Everyone is welcome.
