People living in Bridgnorth are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in the town on Wednesday 22 June 2011.

The litter pick has been organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and it is being carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.

The litter pick will be focusing on Victoria Road, Sydney Cottage Drive, Beech Road, Ash Road, Woodberry Close, Elizabeth Avenue, Racecourse Drive, Tasley Close, Bowers Close, Leasowes Close, Clee View Road, Wrekin Road and Haughton Close.

Officers will be at outside the shops on Sydney Cottage Drive at 9.30am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk.  Litter picking equipment will be provided.  The litter pick will finish at around midday.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“We invite people to join us on the day to pick up litter and to help us keep Bridgnorth clean and tidy.  Everyone is welcome to come and join us.”

Les Winwood, a Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth West and Tasley, said:

“It is always helpful to have extra litter pickers and I hope that residents turn out and help to keep environment clean and tidy.”

John Hurst-Knight, a Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth West and Tasley, said:

“Partnership working has benefitted the area considerably.  An immediate outcome the gardens in Sydney Cottage Drive, and for the near future road changes in Tasley Close.  These have been achieved by residents working with others for their communities.  This litter pick is for us all clearing the area of unwanted waste around homes locally.”
