All aboard for National Bookstart Week 2011
Shropshire libraries will be celebrating National Bookstart Week with special storytimes and rhymetimes, and the loveable Bookstart Bear will be making special appearances at some libraries.
The annual celebration of Bookstart will take place from Monday 6 June to Sunday 12 June 2011.
Bookstart aims to help every child in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to develop a lifelong love of books, offering millions of families the chance to discover the joy of sharing stories, books and rhymes together.
This year a free, specially-commissioned All Aboard! Booklet, illustrated by Jess Stockham and published by Child’s Play (International) Ltd, will be gifted to families at events. Colourful illustrated posters, stickers and Rhymetime sheets will also be available at events.
Bookstart packs can be received from your local library, health visitor or Early Years professional.
Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, said:
“I’m hoping that lots of parents and children come along and join in; as well as being able to meet Bookstart Bear, they’ll be able to see everything else their local libraries have to offer.”
