Gritting and road closure update – Friday 2 March, 10.30am
This is the situation regarding gritting and road closures in the Shropshire Council area, as at 10.30 on Friday 2 March.
- All traffic needs to take care on all roads during this severe weather and only travel as necessary.
- The mainline gritter fleet have treated/ploughed the primary network 5 times since yesterday morning, secondary routes have been done once as have car parks.
- Minor roads are being treated by our farmer/contractors, but not all of those have access to salt spreaders and some will be only ploughing to try and keep minor routes clear.
- Minor roads which have been salted will still need to be approached with care as the salt needs to be trafficked before it becomes most effective.
- Strong winds are blowing snow on to roads from fields and there is significant drifting in places.
