New group aims to reduce flood risk in Shropshire
A new group has been formed to help manage and reduce the long-term risk of flooding in Shropshire.
The Shropshire Local Flood Risk Management Board is a partnership of the four main organisations that have a role to play in managing drainage and flooding in the county – Shropshire Council, Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.
The board will ensure that the four organisations share information and work together to help reduce the risk of flooding.
The board is chaired by Shropshire Council’s Chief Executive, Kim Ryley. He said:
“All members agree that the formation this new group is a positive step forward for Shropshire. We have already made a start on the first important job – the sharing of information between partners. We all have a great deal of information regarding drainage and flooding, and being able to share it will be of great benefit.
“Through working together the board will also ensure that, wherever possible, work to manage or reduce the risk of flooding is undertaken to maximise the benefit to local people. It will also ensure that work being carried out by any of the partners is co-ordinated to help reduce disruption and inconvenience to local people.”
The board will meet on a quarterly basis.
