The conference, held at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn, was an exciting look into the future of education. Leading technology companies Microsoft and BT provided insight around how technology will change the ways children are educated and how to apply current tools.

Philippa Bentley, teacher at Sundorne Infant School and Nursery, said:

“The day was very good and very inspiring. I went to the iPad storytelling workshop. We’re going to be using lots more technology and this is great for updates and ideas.”

Another focus at the conference was the importance of esafety. In this fast-paced digital age it is easy to get caught up in the buzz of it all. But as exciting as these things are, it is vital to educate children and young people about how to use technology safely and how to spot potential risks.

Sarah Woolley, Headteacher of St Lucia’s CE Primary School and Nursery, Upton Magna, said:

“There are helpful key messages on safeguarding. It’s great to confirm the options and contacts available, and seeing things from a different point of view. It’s good to get confirmation of what we are doing is secure, and what things we can consider enhancing further.”

Workshops on this subject and more were held, and everyone is now looking forwards to what innovation next year’s event will bring. Shropshire Council would like to thank the delegates and companies who attended, all the staff at Theatre Severn for assuring the day went smoothly, and everyone who worked behind the scenes organising the conference.

Nick Bardsley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services and education, said:

“This was a truly wonderful event, equipping young people with the skills they will need in the world as adults is a key part of providing a good education, and I am immensely pleased that the service our schools provide works to ensure this and is so open minded to doing this in new ways.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in any way and contributed to making the event so successful. I’m very excited to see what the future conferences will hold, as we continue to strive to provide the best service possible, utilising all the cutting edge technology and software available.”
