People invited to join in litter pick in Much Wenlock
People living in Much Wenlock are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in the town on Wednesday 18 May 2011.
The litter pick has been organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and it is being carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.
The litter pick will be focusing on St Mary’s Road, St Mary’s Lane, HIgh Street, Barrow Street, Wilmore Street, St Owens Road, King Street, Queen Street, Sheinton Street, Back Lane and Bull Ring.
Officers will be at St Mary’s Lane Car Park at 9.30am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk. Litter picking equipment will be provided. The litter pick will finish at around noon.
To allow the road sweeper to clean the streets properly, there will be free parking at St Marys Lane Car Park from 8am to 12.30pm on the day so that cars can be parked off the road.
Councillor Malcolm Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:
“We invite people to join us on the day to pick up litter and to help us keep Much Wenlock clean and tidy. Everyone is welcome to come and join us.”
Milner Whiteman, Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said:
“I hope as many people as possible will lend a hand to do a deep clean of the town this week.”
