Community event in Swan Lane, Oswestry

Related topics: Community

Shropshire Council is asking the local community around Swan Lane, Oswestry, what they would like to see happen in their area.

A consultation event will be held on Wednesday 18 May 2011, from 3pm to 7pm, in the main courtyard at Swan Lane. Refreshments will be provided.

There will be opportunities for residents to become involved in improving the service they receive from the council. There will also be energy advice, help with how to report repairs and advice on the importance of health and safety – in particular gas safety – in the home. It will also be an opportunity for residents to help shape a “Good Neighbour Agreement”, which in turn will promote a safer, stronger community.

There will also be the opportunity for residents to develop their own local community office, to address local issues and get help and advice locally.

Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for housing, said: “Following on from a community event held last December, this event will carry on the conversation about how, in partnership with Shropshire Council, the community can continue to develop in to the future. All are welcome to join us and we look forward to working with local people on this exciting new venture.”

Vince Hunt, Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, said: “This is an example of a community speaking and Shropshire Council and its partners listening and preparing to act. We want the residents of Swan Lane to have access to the information and the services that they need to improve their lives and the prospects for their community. This is localism in action, and showing that we can respond in real time, and in a relevant way. I am very optimistic about the work that is being done here and look forward to attending the event and talking with my constituents.”
