Complete demolition of building at Shakeford to go ahead due to high risk to public

Work to demolish the whole of the building at Shakeford on the A41 has now been agreed.

The decision to remove the entire building has been made because the damaged property continues to pose a serious risk to members of the public and contractors.

The work to remove the damaged building began this morning. The work will also include removing the materials from the cellar, and installing appropriate support and guarding, to allow further investigations of the cellar walls and adjacent highway.

It is hoped the new arrangements will bring forward the reopening of the A41.
