The intensity and power of a selection of memorable short poems will be explored at a free lecture at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) this month.

With a dozen examples, Bill Hughes will reflect on ‘Brief Delights: the Art and Craft of the Miniature Poem’ on Wednesday 23 March 2016 at Guildhall, UCS’s learning and research base, from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Bill said:

“I’ll share some of my favourite poems of between two lines and twelve lines – short enough to share, long enough to linger on.”

Bill is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Chester and a former Principal Lecturer in English. In 2015 he received an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the University, and to the cultural life of the city of Chester, particularly its literature and music festivals. He is currently chair of Chester Performs, the company that will be running the city’s new £38 million theatre and cultural centre.
