Much Wenlock and Shipton LJC meeting: join the Big Conversation

Related topics: Community / Democracy

Residents of Much Wenlock, Easthope, Shipton and Stanton Long are invited to the next Local Joint Committee (LJC) meeting on Wednesday 24 February 2016 at 7pm at Priory Hall, Much Wenlock, where they will be able to have their say in Shropshire Council’s Big Conversation.

It’s no secret that like all councils, Shropshire Council are faced with the need to make further substantial savings in the coming years due to continuous Government cuts. Their predicted budget for 2020/21 indicates they will be left with just £25m (13% of the overall budget) of money to spend on the remaining 150 plus services they currently provide to the people of Shropshire. This is a reduction of 75% from the £100m currently spent on these services.

As there will be considerably less money, they will not be able to deliver the same services as they do now and will need to prioritise how the budget is spent.

David Turner, Chair of the LJC, said:-

“The council is at a point where it is needs to make further substantial savings over the coming years. I would encourage everyone to come and tell us your views on the services you value, the services you don’t and the services the community may consider delivering yourselves.”

Residents will also be able to hear from Shropshire Council’s emergency planning officer, who will be talking about how they co-ordinate their activities and how the communities can be more prepared in an emergency situation.
