Blog: Dry January – Barry
Over the coming weeks, we’re issuing people’s views and experiences about their Dry January 2016 challenge.
Today, Barry (scripted Friday 8 January):-
Hearing and reading of people’s struggles with giving up alcohol it seems sleepless nights, nightmares and vivid dreams are relatively common, especially at the beginning of going ‘dry’.
I believe that once you have gotten over these demons your sleep gets better, longer and more fulfilling; oh yes please.
Here are a few lines from the poem Insomnia by Elizabeth Bishop…
“By the Universe deserted,
she’d tell it to go to hell,
and she’d find a body of water,
or a mirror, on which to dwell.
So wrap up care in a cobweb
and drop it down the well
into that world inverted
where left is always right,
where the shadows are really the body,
where we stay awake all night,
where the heavens are shallow as the sea
is now deep, and you love me.”
Barry.
