Related topics: Community

Residents and local organisations in Shawbury and the surrounding area are invited to get involved in developing alternative management arrangements for Shawbury Library.

Residents can discuss their ideas with officers from Shropshire Council at an open afternoon on Wednesday 18 November from 4pm to 6.30pm at Shawbury Library.

Alternatively, comments can be submitted online during the period 6 November to 18 December 2015, by going to shropshire.gov.uk/get-involved.

No formal decisions have yet been made regarding future management of the Library.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said:

“Libraries are an integral part of the community and this is why we have been working extremely hard with our partners to ensure we can find sustainable solutions to enable libraries to continue to thrive for future generations to come.

“We very much look forward to hearing people’s views on these proposals.”

Simon Jones, Shropshire Councillor for Shawbury, said:

“I would encourage residents to suggest how the library service can be delivered in the future. The library is an important part of the village and finding the best local solution can only be done with involvement from the community.”

Residents can also pick up a survey along with the proposals and frequently-asked questions at Shawbury Library, the Village Hall and the Co-Op.

The deadline for submissions is 18 December 2015.
