University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) has been put on the map with the latest in a series of visits by international Higher Education experts.

Staff at UCS recently hosted a visit by Tiko Bokeria from the Tbilisi Medical Academy in Georgia.

Ms Bokeria is the Medical Academy’s International Relationship Manager, and also oversees admissions and awards at the institution.

She was seconded to the University of Chester’s faculty of Health and Social Care in September 2015 as part of a month’s international exchange, organised through the European Union’s Higher Education Erasmus Mundus MEDEA programme. The programme aims to strengthen links between countries within and outside the European Union.

During her visit, she was delighted to be able to see the student accommodation at Mardol House, the teaching and learning centre at The Guildhall, and the information point and seminar rooms at Rowley’s House.

Ms Bokeria was able to learn about a number of the European projects that are now run from UCS, including initiatives to help people who are out-of-work gain confidence, experience and find employment. She was also shown how these will link with the developing research work of UCS’ Centre for Societal Innovation.

University Centre Shrewsbury’s Technology Enhanced Learning Adviser, Geraint Lang, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Tiko to Shrewsbury and showcase the institution. The visit provided a great opportunity to share information on courses, sites and projects.”

Ms Bokeria added:

It was so impressive and exciting for me to have the chance to participate in this great project, Erasmus Mundus MEDEA.

“University Centre Shrewsbury and the University of Chester were really amazing, with great experience in this field and highly qualified professors. Thank you for everything.”
