Shropshire Council’s leisure services and community enablement teams have joined together to hold a week of events in Oswestry to celebrate the European Week of Sport between Monday 7 September and Saturday 12 September 2015.

The European Week of Sport aims to promote sport and physical activity across Europe. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, it will inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in people’s everyday lives to exercise more.

#BeActive is a call to action to get Europeans moving.

All events will be held at The Centre in Oswestry, and will look at getting as many people as possible involved in sport and physical activity.

Throughout the week each day will take on a different theme from the outdoors, education, fitness, sports clubs and centres, schools and workplaces.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for leisure services, said:-

“These events will look at getting as many people as possible involved in sport and physical activity, which boosts people’s health, and I recommend everyone to #BeActive.”

Vince Hunt, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, said:-

“I am pleased that we are able to help support this event by using The Centre as the venue, and would encourage as many to attend as possible.”

There will be a wide range of taster activities, educational seminars, and health screening available during the week, which are will be all free (booking is essential).
