Shrewsbury BikeFest returns on Saturday 7 June with free activities and competitions
The Shrewsbury BikeFest returns for the seventh year this Saturday at Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, with a host of free and fun cycling activities for all ages and abilities.
The event, which runs between midday and 4pm on Saturday 7 June 2014, is put on by Shropshire Council’s Travel Shropshire team.
Claire Wild, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:
“As well as being a great day out, BikeFest is a chance for people to get answers to their cycling questions and get new ideas about where they can ride. They can find out about how they can start cycling on their regular journeys to school, to the shops or to see friends.
“We’re very grateful to our partners Sustrans, Quest88 and Shrewsbury Sports Village for their support of BikeFest.”
BikeFest is full of activities suitable for small children including art activities, face painting, the one man cycling circus and learn to ride sessions; while their parents can find practical information and advice about cycling or brush up on their cycling skills. Other activities on offer include:
- A free safety check on your bike from bike mechanic Dr Bike
- A chance to make your own artwork on the pedal-powered art bike
- A chance to brush up your cycle skills with our cycling instructors and try out the purpose built cycle track.
There will also be a variety of adapted cycles and tandems to try out for adults and children with special needs, provided by local company Quest88.
Alongside all this, there will be a competition with some fantastic prizes kindly donated by local suppliers, including:
- A free cycle hire voucher worth £25 – Adventure Biking
- A £30 voucher – Urban Bikes UK
- Cycling for pleasure maps – Wheely Wonderful Cycling
- All you need to do is come to BikeFest and complete a short questionnaire.
A family cycle ride to the event will leave from Bank Farm Road, Radbrook (at the crossing opposite the shops) at 11am and will follow quiet roads and traffic free paths. Suitable for all abilities, just turn up and join the ride – under 16s must bring an adult.
