Senior Safety Information Day taking place in Market Drayton
Older people are being invited to an event in Market Drayton which will provide information to help keep people healthy, active and independent.
The senior safety information day will take place on Thursday 10 April at the Festival Drayton Centre, Frogmore Road, from 10am to 3pm.
A wealth of information will be available, including talks from the Falls Prevention Service, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The benefits service from Age UK will also be present on the day to help people understand what benefits they may be entitled to.
Experts will be on hand to talk about the Unpaid Carers Support Service, community transport, support for people with hearing or sight loss, and much more.
The event is being organised jointly by Age UK and Shropshire Rural Community Council’s wise and well team, supported by Shropshire Council.
Daphne Simmons, from the Shropshire Rural Community Council, said:
“We are delighted to be running this information event in Market Drayton – make sure you book your place as we have had some really positive comments from people who came to previous events.”
The comments from people at previous events include:
- “I wish my friend had come as well, she would have got so much out of today.”
- “I now know who to contact for information.”
- “I have more information on how to prevent falls.”
- “Lovely friendly atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyable.”
The event is free and open to everyone, but anyone interested in coming along is asked to book a place by calling 01743 342160.
Transport can be provided to the Festival Drayton Centre.
Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services, Lee Chapman, said:
“We are very pleased to support this event as it’s vital that older people are given as much information as possible to help them stay independent.
“I would urge anyone with an interest to come along and find out about the wealth of support that’s available in the community.”
