The Big Green Shropshire Gathering proves a hit

On Saturday 9 November, The Big Green Shropshire Gathering took place at Shropshire Wildlife Trust in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury. The event included a variety of speakers from environmental organisations in Shropshire, along with a series of stalls showcasing green projects from across the county, refreshments from Alfie & Billy’s, and plenty of opportunity for attendees to talk and exchange ideas.

The day was organised by Green Shropshire Xchange with support from Shropshire Council to provide a forum for environmentally minded organisations in Shropshire.

Speakers included Les Lumsden, who kicked off the day discussing sustainable transport, Jodie Griffith who introduced the Incredible Edible Shrewsbury project, Jon Halle who spoke about renewable energy and Simon Ross from MEA on home energy. Other organisations such as Friends Of The Earth, Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Ludlow 21, The Rubbish Diet and Shropshire Community Recycling Network were also present. The event attracted around 80 visitors throughout the day.

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council member involved with the Green Xchange, said:

“The people there really shaped the day and the turnout was hugely encouraging. These are very important issues and having events like this helps bring community groups together for discussion and action.”

Jenna Blair, Green Shropshire Xchange Coordinator, said:

“We received excellent feedback from people who attended the event. There is so much positive work taking place in the county and people really relished having time and space to exchange ideas and showcase their efforts.”
