Funds available for rural community projects in new financial year
Community groups and projects in Kinnerley, Knockin, Llanyblodwel, Llanymynech and Pant, Oswestry Rural, and Melverley parish areas are being reminded that they have until Friday 6 September 2013 to apply for funding from the first round of St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee (LJC) funding budget 2013/14.
Over £5,000 was awarded to community groups and projects in the St Oswald and Llanymynech area when the St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC area met on 19 February 2013 at Trefonen Village Hall.
The next round of funding will be awarded at the committee’s next meeting on Tuesday 8 October 2013 to be held at Morda Village Hall. Applications must be received by 6 September 2013 in order to be considered at this meeting.
Groups within the LJC area are invited to apply.
Councillor Arthur Walpole, Chairman of the St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC, said:
“These meetings give local people a chance to tell councillors their views on local issues and services affecting them. In turn, this helps us to make better use our budget to benefit the local community as best we can.
“We’ve been impressed with the turnout and contributions at the meetings so far and hope these continue. They are a great chance to hear about upcoming changes and plans from councils.”
The last meeting saw Tim Smith, northern area commissioner at Shropshire Council, speak about upcoming changes and his role within the council in the future. Locals were updated on the continuing work with the National Grid, and reminded that the consultation on the latest stage of the SAMDev (Site Allocations and Management of Development Plan) plans was open to the public.
