The best building projects in Shropshire were highlighted at an awards ceremony held by Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council.

The third Local Authority Building Control Awards took place on Thursday 23 May 2013 in the Council Chamber at Shirehall.

About 80 delegates from the local construction industry, along with local and national sponsors, attended the event where awards were given out in recognition of building excellence.

Hosted by Shropshire-born Paul Everall, Chief Executive of the LABC (Local Authority Building Control), the event included a short presentation on the building projects nominated for the 2013 awards.

The overall winner for 2013 was Paveaways Ltd and their agent Baart Harries Newall Architects for the earth science building at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College.

In addition to the local awards, the event was used to stage the West Midlands Site Agent of the Year Awards sponsored by LABC Warranty.  The winner was Wayne Gwilt, of Mansell Homes Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK, for the development of Ph 2 High Street, Brownhills.

Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for planning, said:

“The quality on show from all entrants was impressive, which shows that the future development in Shropshire is in good hands.  I would like to say thank you to everyone who took part, and congratulations to all of the winners.”
