Shropshire primary school praised by inspectors
A Shropshire primary school has been praised by Government inspectors for its work to raise standards and achieve a rating of good, with outstanding features.
In an Ofsted report published today (Monday 20 May 2013), Myddle CE Primary School has also been found to have an outstanding capacity to carry on improving.
The commitment to, and success in, making significant progress comes less than a year after the school was given a notice to improve.
The inspector who visited the school earlier this month applauded the quality of teaching as “consistently good”, with some teaching being “outstanding”. He said that “teachers regularly check on how well pupils are working, and make suitable changes to the work so all pupils achieve well”, while “pupils’ achievement in reading is excellent” and “is good in writing and mathematics”.
The inspector’s report also recognised that: “Pupils’ outstanding behaviour and high attendance contribute well to a happy and supportive school.”
On the work that had taken place since the previous inspection, the inspector commented that the headteacher provides “very strong leadership and a relentless drive to improve”. In addition, he highlighted how support from Shropshire Council, the Local Leader of Education from Lower Heath CE Primary School, and governors had been important in supporting the school to make improvements.
Sue Dawson, Myddle Primary School Headteacher, and Phil Jones, Chair of Governors, said:
“We are delighted that the report shows that our pupils enjoy school, and are being well equipped for the next stage in their education.
“The judgement reflects the commitment of staff, governors, the council and all involved with the school, and we will use the findings to drive improvement even further.”
Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, added:
“We are extremely pleased that everyone’s hard work has been recognised. This report is a credit to the team effort which is focused on providing the best possible opportunities for our pupils.
“I would like to congratulate everyone connected to the school who has helped to raise standards so effectively and, as outlined in the report, it is clear that the determination is there to continue to build on this excellent report.”
