Closure of Westhope Culvert later this month

Westhope Culvert,  which carries the C6201 road over the brook between Westhope and Seifton Batch, will be closed to allow repair work that needs to be carried out to the damaged bridge parapet and deck slab.

The road will be closed at the bridge from Monday 27 May 2013, and work is anticipated to take up to four weeks to complete.  The work will be carried out by Ringway on behalf of Shropshire Council.

Unfortunately, for the work to be carried out safely and due to the narrow width of the road, it is not possible to keep the bridge open for vehicles to use while the repairs are carried out.  There will be access for pedestrians, cyclists and horses to pass while the work is carried out.

When the road is closed, there will be a signed diversion route taking traffic around through Westhope, Lower Dinchhope to Greenway Cross along the B4368 to New House, and back up to Seifton Batch, and also in reverse.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

‘‘This is essential work which needs to be carried out.  Whilst it is appreciated that the road closure will cause some disruption, please be assured that everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen the road as soon as possible.”

Cecilia Motley, local Shropshire Councillor for Corvedale, said:

“I am sorry that Westhope residents will once again be inconvenienced by a road closure, a year after the road was closed for an even longer period.  However, we need to get this work done, and I have been assured that the contractors will do their best to complete the work well within the time allocated.”
