Bicton Primary School pupils learn to love where they live

Related topics: Community

Children from Bicton Primary School are learning to love where they live as part of an initiative by Shropshire Council’s streetscene team to inspire people to have pride in their area and keep it tidy.

Gillian Denning, the council’s education and enforcement officer, joined the children for their assembly, alongside Clive Bosel, manager at Bicton’s Co-Op store, to talk about Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Where You Live campaign, and how they can play their part in reducing the amount of litter dropped.

During the talk the children were tasked to create a poster portraying what Love Where You Live means to them.  Once complete the posters will be on show in Bicton Co-Op, and customers will be invited to vote for the best five (a winner in each class).  The winners will be awarded a prize donated by the Co-Op, and their posters will be displayed in and around the store.

Gillian Denning said:

“This is an excellent way of working together and inspiring the children to get involved and be passionate about the area in which they live.  After all, it’s loving where we live that makes us want a great place to be even better.”

Clive Bosel, added:

“This is what the co-operative ethics and values revolve around and I’m proud to be part of the new campaign, Love Where You Live.”

This work is just part of lots more taking place with other schools and organisations to reduce the amount of dropped litter, flytipped waste, dog fouling, as well as improving the local environment by planting flowers, forest gardens (in schools) and recycling.
