Improvements to Sheriffhales Primary School garden area
Local children have been getting their hands dirty recently as part of a project to make improvements to the outside space available at Sheriffhales Primary School.
Work was recently commissioned by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance service to help Sheriffhales Primary School complete a project to plant a tree and clear a rough area of ground in order to improve the outside garden space available for the children.
Glen McGrandle, Shropshire Council’s streetscene manager, said:
“It is really good for children to be involved and to learn about nature and the environment, and this project has allowed them to be actively involved in improving the landscaping of their own school. Our contractors worked together with the school to ensure that there was no disruption to the school day, and the school has thanked us for the professionalism and quality of work undertaken.”
Andrea McWilliams, community action officer for the area, said:
“Shropshire Council’s Community Tree Scheme is another way in which we support tree planting in Shropshire, and any future projects at the school will be linked to this scheme. It enables parish tree wardens, schools, environmental and community groups, parish and town councils, farmers and landowners to apply for native trees and shrubs free of charge. Although the scheme is currently closed, it offers a good opportunity for anyone who wants to plant trees in a location where they will be readily visible to the public, and will enhance the landscape and character of the area. For further information on this scheme please contact a member of Shropshire Council’s natural environment team on 01743 252564.”
