Cross Street, Oswestry, update

Cross Street in Oswestry has been temporarily closed to traffic after sections of guttering fell from some buildings.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and Shropshire Council closed the road from about 2pm on Monday 1 April 2013 as a precaution, and pedestrian access was restricted from the Coral bookmakers to the Red Cross shop.

A covered walkway is being constructed early on Tuesday morning (2 April 2013) to ensure that shoppers can still access the shops, but the road will stay closed to traffic while inspections are carried out on the buildings, which are privately owned.

Building control officers from Shropshire Council are due to meet shop owners on Tuesday to discuss the next steps.
