Roads across Shropshire to be resurfaced

Work will begin on Monday (4 March 2013) to resurface a number of roads across Shropshire.

The work is being carried out as part of a £2m programme of investment by Shropshire Council aimed at improving the condition of the county’s road network.

All work is scheduled to be completed in time for the Easter weekend.

The roads that are to be resurfaced, and when – with related information – are:

A41 – Weston Heath to Gorsey Bank (near Newport)

  • Planned duration of work: Monday 4 to Sunday 17 March.
  • The road will be closed while work is carried out, and a signed diversion will be in place.

A41/A5 – Pickmere Roundabout (near Shifnal)

  • Planned duration of work:  Monday 4 to Sunday 10 March.
  • Work will be carried out overnight.
  • Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday 4 to Friday 8 March.

A458 – Shelton Lights (Shrewsbury)

  • Planned duration of work: Saturday 23 to Thursday 28 March.
  • Temporary traffic lights will be place, and stop/go boards used, while work is carried out.

A525 – ‘Oldfields’ to Catterals Lane (near Whitchurch)

  • Planned duration of work: Monday 4 to Sunday 17 March.
  • A convoy system will be place from Monday 4 to Friday 15 March.
  • The road will be closed on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 February and a signed diversion will be in place.

B4368 – Anchor Inn to Weals Bridge (near Clun)

  • Planned duration of work: Monday 18 to Friday 22 March.
  • The road will be closed while work is carried out, and a signed diversion will be in place.

B5068 – Dudleston Heath

  • Planned duration of work: Tuesday 5 to Thursday 28 March.
  • On weekdays a convoy system will be in place.
  • On Saturdays and Sundays the road will be closed and a signed diversion will be place.

A525 – Church Lane to the county boundary (near Whitchurch)

  • Planned duration of work: Monday 18 to Thursday 28 March (no work is scheduled for the weekend of 23 and 24 March).
  • A convoy system will be place while work is carried out.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways, said:

“This work represents a significant investment by the council in some of the county’s most important roads.  It’s vital that we continue to invest in our roads so that people can travel safely, quickly and easily, whether they are commuting to work, driving to the shops, taking the children to school, or travelling for pleasure.

“Though it will cause some disruption to road users, I ask drivers to bear with us while this important work is carried out, as they will certainly see the benefits once it’s finished.”

Letters have been sent to people living in the areas close to the planned works, and information signs have been put in place.

An assessment of roads across the county was carried out to determine which roads would benefit most from the investment.

The work is being funded through Shropshire Council’s Local Transport Plan road maintenance grant.
