Oswestry Leisure Centre cafe opens
Customers and the local community of Oswestry can now enjoy a brand new café service at Oswestry Leisure Centre, which opened for business in January 2013. The poolside area will serve a full range of Costa coffee drinks and snacks, complementing the existing seating area.
Oswestry Leisure Centre has already recently undergone an extensive refurbishment of its fitness suite in recent months, including the creation of a brand new 75-station fitness space, plus a new retail area for swimwear and accessories.
On 1 August 2012, Shropshire Council appointed Shropshire Community Leisure Trust (SCLT), working with managing agent Serco Leisure. Under the contract with Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, Serco provides management services to five leisure centres across the county namely: Market Drayton Swimming Centre, Oswestry Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village and Indoor Bowls Hall, Whitchurch Swimming Centre and the Quarry Fitness and Swimming Centre in Shrewsbury, as part of a new approach to service delivery. The 10-year contract commenced on 1 August 2012 and has already seen £1.2 million investment in facilities and equipment across the facilities.
In addition, SCLT has announced new extended opening hours at the leisure facilities. Shrewsbury Sports Village is now open from 6am weekdays, Market Drayton Swimming & Fitness Centre from 6.30am weekdays, and Oswestry Leisure Centre from 6.30am on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
Brian Taylor, Chairman of Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, commented:
“We are delighted to announce the opening of the Oswestry café and the new extended opening hours at the centres.
“So much progress has been made since SCLT were appointed to manage the centres, including the investment into the fitness suites at Oswestry, Market Drayton and Shrewsbury Sports Village. This investment has already seen the creation of 10 jobs including fitness instructors, café staff, lifeguards, swimming teachers and aerobics instructors in the centres, with further investment scheduled for 2013.”
Shropshire Community Leisure Trust’s mission is a simple one – to provide active and healthy lifestyles for all, in a safe, warm, clean, friendly, fun environment for the local community, at an affordable cost.
The Shropshire community is encouraged to join us on Facebook at GymIn_Shropshire and on twitter @GymInShrops to keep up to date with the developments across the centres.
