Changes to winter opening times at Severn Valley County Park will take affect from this November.

After reviewing the winter opening hours to better suit its customers needs, Severn Valley Country Park Visitor Centre and cafe will now open on weekends only throughout the winter, starting from 12 November 2012 to 12 March 2013.

The Visitor Centre and teashop will continue to remain open 7 days a week during school holidays and Bank Holidays.  Previously the centre and teashop had been open from Wednesday to Sunday throughout the year, as well as school holidays and Bank Holidays. Like with many parks, it is usual to decrease the opening times of their visitor centres and café’s in accordance to demand.

Severn Valley Country Park sits in an attractive position next to the River Severn in Highley and Alveley.  The site boasts a teashop and visitor centre, way-marked walking trails, a national cycle route, picnic areas and a play area.  It now attracts over 130,000 visitors a year who enjoy the peaceful surroundings and spectacular views.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“We are constantly looking to deliver services as efficiently and effectively as possible to make the best use of the resources available, especially in the current economic climate. This is why we have adjusted the opening times in accordance to when our customers mostly visit the park.  The visitor centre and teashop will still be open during the weekends when it is still busy, and school holidays and Bank Holidays.”

The park is one of 1,424 parks and green spaces across the country to receive a Green Flag Award this year.  This is the national standard for parks and open spaces.  Severn Valley Country Park has held the award continuously for nine years now.  This is longer than any other park in Shropshire.

The park and toilets will still remain open throughout the year and the park will also be involved in the Alveley Scarecrow Festival this Autumn.

Opening times of the Severn Valley Country Park visitor centre and teashop from 12 November 2012 to 12 March 2013 will be from 11am to 4pm Saturdays and Sundays. Toilets will remain open from November to March: 9am to 4.30pm, 7 days a week.
